“La nostra dipendenza dalla Russia è stato un errore strategico”. Con queste parole il primo ministro armeno, Nikol Pashinyan, in un’intervista al quotidiano La Repubblica, aveva espresso la propria delusione verso Mosca rea, a suo dire, di non fare abbastanza nella regione contesa del Nagorno Karabakh.
Al contempo il capo del Comitato europeo per l’allargamento della NATO aveva subito colto la palla al balzo invitando l’Armenia ad aderire all’Alleanza atlantica. Una richiesta che, oltre a essere l’ennesima provocazione occidentale,era ostacolata dall’appartenenza del Paese al CSTO (Organizzazione del Trattato di sicurezza collettiva) di cui anche la Russia fa parte, insieme ad altre repubbliche ex sovietiche.
Tuttavia oggi, 6 settembre, l’Armenia ha richiamato il proprio rappresentante della CSTO senza nominarne uno nuovo e al Parlamento armeno è stato presentato anche un progetto di legge sulla ratifica dello Statuto di Roma che riconosce la Corte penale internazionale, la stessa che ha emesso un mandato di arresto nei confronti di Vladimir Putin.
A gettare benzina sul fuoco vi sarebbero poi le esercitazioni militari congiunte tra il Paese ex sovietico e gli Stati Uniti, in programma dall’11 al 20 settembre e denominate Partner Eagle 2023. Esercitazioni che preoccupano non poco il Cremlino; il portavoce, Dmitry Peskov, ha affermato che Mosca sta analizzando queste informazioni e monitorerà gli sviluppi. Inoltre, secondo quanto riferito da fonti militari, l’esercito azero avrebbe iniziato un massiccio spostamento di truppe e attrezzature militari al confine con l’Armenia.
Anche sul fronte diplomatico si registra una vistosa spaccatura tra Armenia e Russia. La moglie di Pashinyan, Anna Hakobyan, si è recata a Kiev per il summit delle first lady dove, insieme ad altre sue omologhe occidentali, sarà ricevuta dal presidente ucraino Volodimir Zelensky e sua moglie. L’intento della missione della first lady armena sarà quello di consegnare personalmente gli aiuti umanitari promessi.
